Japan’s annual pop culture explosion, Tokyo Comic Con, is returning on December 5-7th, 2025 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, the home of cosplay, sci-fi stars, and of course, collectables.
Tickets are on sale now and selling out fast. Here’s what we know so far, what’s happened before, and why this year may outdo even the last few!
What is Tokyo Comic Con
Tokyo Comic Con is Japan’s answer to the global pop-culture convention craze: a vibrant mix of movies, comics, animation, collectibles, technology, cosplay, and celebrity appearances. It goes far beyond manga and anime, bringing in Hollywood stars, rare props, live performances, and plenty of opportunities for fan interaction.
For us, one of the biggest draws is the sheer variety of exclusive merchandise you’ll only find here. From limited-edition Funko Pops to detailed figurines and apparel, the convention floor is packed with treasures to tempt even the most seasoned collector.

Guests and Highlights
To mark the 40th anniversary of Back to the Future, four of the film’s iconic stars are heading to Tokyo Comic Con. Fans will have the chance to meet Christopher Lloyd (Doc Brown), Lea Thompson (Lorraine Baines-McFly), Thomas F. Wilson (Biff Tannen), and Claudia Wells (Jennifer Parker) as they sign autographs, join panels, and pose for photos. Even better, a limited number of fans can secure a once-in-a-lifetime photo with all four cast members alongside the legendary DeLorean, which will be on display throughout the weekend.
The guest lineup doesn’t stop there. Antony Starr (The Boys, Banshee) will be making his first Tokyo Comic Con appearance, while Hobbit fans can rejoice:Elijah Wood and Sean Astin are also confirmed.
And for me? The real highlight will be Karl Urban, whose career spans unforgettable roles like Dr. “Bones” McCoy in Star Trek, Judge Dredd, and Éomer in The Lord of the Rings.
What to look forward to (and what to plan for!)
Here are some tips to make the most of your Tokyo Comic Con experience:

- Pops & Displays: If you love movie props, rare items, or retro gear this years displays may be particularly interesting to you because of the Back to the Future focus.
